Do you have your sights set on all-inclusive river rafting trips down the Salmon River or Snake River next summer? These trips can be a lot of fun for families and friends. It’s a way to escape the city for a few days and reconnect with one another.

Some tour companies offer ways to take your rafting trip to the next level, offering more than just rafting experiences. Here are a few ways you can “upgrade” your whitewater rafting adventure.

Hop in a Kayak

Want to dial the whitewater excitement up a few notches? Jump out of the oar boat or paddle boat and into a kayak! Some Idaho river tour companies bring along one- or two-person inflatable kayaks for anyone who wants a more personal river experience.

It’s just you (and anyone you want to bring, if you’re not going solo) and the water, so prepare to get wet. If this sounds like something you’d like to do, let your river tour company know when you book your trip, and you’re set!

Take a Hike

Hiking is a great way to balance out a morning of whitewater rafting. When you book Salmon River or Hells Canyon rafting with camping, you’ll have plenty of shore time to go for a hike, especially when your tour group comes ashore for the afternoon.

Your river guides can point out trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. There are several trails along both the Salmon and Snake Rivers to explore that take you up to some pretty incredible viewpoints. Be sure to pack your hiking shoes!

Reel in Some Fish

What Salmon River or Snake River Idaho rafting trip is complete without fishing? Many Idaho river tour companies are more than happy to accommodate you if you’re interested in fishing (some even provide fishing gear for your use).

Be aware that if you decide to fish, you need a fishing license. For trips within Idaho, like Salmon River trips, you only need an Idaho fishing license. For Snake River trips, particularly through Hells Canyon on the Oregon border, you need an Idaho and/or an Oregon fishing license.
