There was always such pressure on women to make their own Queen of Hearts costume or whichever fancy dress costume they were choosing to make for their kids or themselves. You were seen as the ‘bad mom’ if you did not make your own fancy dress costume and if you did not sit for hours hunched over the sewing machine. Well, times have indeed changed and the pressure to be the perfect mom, or dad, is way over. Moms and dads work hard and often do not have the time to sit and make a fancy dress costume, or to put it more simply, sometimes do not want to sit and make a fancy dress costume. If it is easier to buy a fancy dress costume then why not take the easy option? It is inexpensive, it works seamlessly and the costume arrives at your door, ready-made and with accessories. What is not perfect about that?
To sew or not to sew
Why sew when you can buy costumes online for a fraction of the price? If you enjoy sewing and if you enjoy creating fancy dress costumes, or any kind of clothing, then of course you should do the sewing and creating. But if sewing and making things is not your style, and is not one of your many skills, and we know you have many other skills, then there is really no pressure on you. There are so many fancy dress costume shops and that is because the owners know that people do not have time, or even inclination, to sew their own fancy dress costumes anymore. If you prefer to buy a costume, good! And you can still involve your child in the process. Sit with them and look at the different costumes online and get them to choose the costume they want. Remember to look at the accessories for sale too. And this could be a good time to teach your child how to order online, safely and securely as well. Let them be part of the process, whichever process you choose.
Should moms feel bad
The title of this reads should moms feel bad but dads are just as responsible are they not. A mom and dad should not feel in the least bit bad about ordering a fancy dress costume from an online costume shop. We are living in the world of the internet, in the world of easy gratification, and in the world of online shopping. These three things make our lives easier and we should never feel bad if our lives are made easier. In fact we should be delighted. I know I am delighted that I can order things like fancy dress costumes online. It leaves me time to do so many other things that I love doing. Sewing is not my favourite hobby!
