How to edit a published writeup and work with drafts.

Updated April 12, 2026

Writeups aren’t set in stone. You can edit any writeup you’ve published at any time, and any changes show up immediately on the public page.

Editing a published writeup

  1. Go to your profile or the writeup page itself.
  2. Click the Edit button (you’ll only see it on your own writeups).
  3. You’ll be dropped back into the editor with your existing content loaded.
  4. Make your changes and click Update.

Edits don’t affect your follower count, likes, comments, or bookmarks. They don’t reset your publish date either — the original date stays, and an Updated timestamp is added.

Drafts

If you’re in the middle of a writeup and not ready to publish, hit Save Draft instead. Drafts are private — only you can see them. Find them again under the Drafts tab on your profile (visible only to you).

Unpublishing

You can change a published writeup back to draft to hide it from the public. It still exists, but it stops appearing in feeds, topics, and your public profile. This is less permanent than deleting — you can always re-publish later.

Deleting a writeup

Deletion is permanent. Comments, likes, and bookmarks are removed along with the writeup. The URL becomes a 410 Gone. Only delete when you’re sure — there’s no undo.
