Getting Started

Publish your first writeup

A step-by-step walkthrough of writing, styling, and publishing your first post.

Updated April 12, 2026

A writeup is WriteUpCafe’s name for a published article. Writeups live on your profile, appear in topic feeds, and can be followed, commented on, and bookmarked by readers.

1. Start a new writeup

Click the + button in the top nav, or go directly to /post-writeup. You’ll land in the editor.

2. Write

The title goes at the top. Then start writing in the body below. The editor supports:

  • Headings (H2, H3, H4)
  • Bold, italic, links
  • Bulleted and numbered lists
  • Block quotes and inline code
  • Images — drag and drop or click the image button
  • Tables

There’s no length minimum, but writeups under 300 words usually feel thin. Aim for 500+ for posts you want to rank in topics and feeds.

3. Add a cover image and excerpt

When you click Next, you’ll see step 2 — the metadata page. Here you can:

  • Upload a featured image (recommended 1200×675, JPG/PNG/WebP, under 5MB)
  • Write a short excerpt (1–2 sentences that appear in feed cards)
  • Pick up to 5 topics your writeup belongs to
  • Customize the URL slug

4. Publish

Click Publish and your writeup goes live immediately. You’ll get the URL and a share prompt. That’s it.

Free accounts can publish up to 5 writeups per month. Pro accounts have no limit — see What Pro unlocks.

Drafts

Not ready to publish? Click Save Draft instead. You can come back and finish them later from the Drafts tab on your profile — visible only to you.
