The BCCI announced a 15-member test squad of the Indian team for the upcoming 2-match test series against South Africa. The two-match test series will commence on November 14. The first test match will be played between two teams at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, from November 14 to November 18, while the second and final test will be held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, from November 22 to November 26.
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, a 15-member squad has been announced. Rishabh Pant is returning to the squad, and he will also be featured in the vice-captaincy role. Currently, he is captaining the India A side in the unofficial two-match test series against South Africa A. Rishabh Pant suffered from a toe injury during the England tour.
Akash Deep is also returning in this test series. He suffered from a groin injury during the England tour. Narayan Jagadeesan will miss out on the squad after Rishabh Pant’s return to the squad. Akash Deep is included instead of Prasidh Krishna.
Despite an outstanding bowling display for Bengal in the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy, where he claimed 15 wickets in three matches, Mohammed Shami has not yet secured his place in the squad.
Apart from these two changes, the other players who featured in the West Indies Test series remain in the squad. Once again, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will open the innings for the Test side. Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant will form the middle order. Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy will take up the all-rounder roles. Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammad Siraj are the fast-bowling options, while Kuldeep Yadav continues as the sole specialist spinner. Dhruv Jurel has been named as the backup wicketkeeper, and Devdutt Padikkal also features in the squad.
The South Africa side will play 2 test matches, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20I matches during the India Tour. The two-match India vs South Africa test series is scheduled to begin on November 14. The first Test will take place from November 14 to 18 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by the second Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, from November 22 to 26. Following this, the ODI series will be played from November 30 to December 06, while the 5-match T20I series will be played from December 09 to December 19.
