The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin in just a few days, but all Indian fans want to know if Jasprit Bumrah is fit and whether will he be available for the event or not. The champion bowler was injured during the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the biggest concern for Team India ahead of the Champions Trophy. He took 31 wickets in that series, but during Australia’s first innings in the Sydney Test, Bumrah went to the hospital for a scan of his back. He did not bowl in the second innings of that Test.
According to media reports, Dr Rowan Scouten, an orthopaedic surgeon in New Zealand, is examining him. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is closely monitoring Bumrah’s progress. He was advised to refrain from physical activity during this period. The report of this recovery phase has been sent to Dr. Scouten for evaluation. Harshit Rana will be his backup bowler. The BCCI will soon decide on Bumrah’s availability for the Champions Trophy. According to some media reports, Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for the first 2 matches of the Champions Trophy, but he may play against New Zealand.
The world’s best bowler Jasprit Bumrah was recently seen at the Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad, where singer Chris Martin also sang a song dedicated to him. According to a source close to the BCCI, “The selectors also know that it would be a miracle if Bumrah becomes 100% fit in the stipulated time.” The selectors have time till February 11 to make changes in the team for the Champions Trophy if needed. They selected Harshit Rana as a backup option for the ongoing ODI series against England. If Bumrah is not fit, Harshit Rana will also play in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Indian team start their champions trophy campaign against Bangladesh on 20th February while the greatest match of the cricket world happens on 23 February when India takes on Pakistan. The Indian team played their last group match against New Zealand on 2nd March.
